These chic and highly collectible earrings are the work of Belgian-born, New York designer, William de Lillo. Produced circa 1970, they feature two intersecting gold-toned hoops encircled by black and white beading.
The William de Lillo company was formed in 1968 by William De Lillo and his partner, Roger E. Clark, the former head designer at Miriam Haskell. De Lillo had honed his craft by working with the top jewelers of the 20th century, spending time at Tiffany & Co, Cartier, and Harry Winston.
Together, they designed bold statement jewelry for women and men, with most pieces being unique.
William de Lillo's pieces caught the attention of high-profile clients such as Elizabeth Taylor and the Duchess of Windsor, which led to collaborations with renowned fashion houses including Chanel, Nina Ricci, Schiaparelli, and Yves Saint Laurent. At the time, their exclusive designs were sought after, and because they ceased producing jewelry in 1976, their work is highly sought by collectors today.
Several William de Lillo pieces are held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
