Selection of Three Small BUCHAN Mid-Century Stoneware Ovenproof Dishes | ,Brittany Pattern, | Made in Scotland | Very Collectible | Excellent Condition
This lovely collection of three small rustic mid-century stoneware dishes was produced by A. W. Buchan & C0 (1878-1972) in Portobello, Scotland (which is now a suburb of Edinburgh).
They are from the ,Brittany, design range, which dates to 1956 and features hand-painted abstract oranges, pears, figs, grapes, and other fruit.
While visually, they have a French provincial feel to them, unlike the pottery commonly produced in the south of France, Buchan pottery is fine, high-quality, high-fired stoneware. The dishes are all overproof but would also add a lovely farmhouse touch to a cold buffet table.
The collection includes:
● A small rectangular baking dish: 23 cm (~9") long, 17.5 cm (~6.9") wide, and 5 cm (~2") deep
● A small round ramekin with a handle: 14.2 cm (~5.6") wide at the top with a 10.5 cm (~4.1") base-
● A small, round, lidded casserole bowl: 13.2 cm (~5.2") wide and 6.5 cm (~2.5") high
In recent years, Buchan pottery from the 1950s has become increasingly sought-after by collectors.
