Elegant Minimalism! Pair of Mid-Century Stylized Travertine Giraffe Bookends | Designed by Enzo Mari for Fratelli Mannelli | Made in Italy
This pair of 1970s stylized Giraffe bookends was designed by Enzo Mari and manufactured by Fratelli Mannelli using travertine stone sourced from the village of Rapolano Terme, in the Italian province of Sienna.
Standing about 26 cm (~10.25") tall, and weighing more than 2 kg each, they are perfect for use as bookends, yet work equally well as two pieces of sculpture.
Made by hand, there are slight variations between the two pieces. Most notably, one is about 0.5 cm taller than the other. Likewise, there are differences in the characterful marbling and natural cracking of the stone.
They were designed by Enzo Mari (1932-2020), a highly regarded Italian post-Modernist artist, writer, and product and furniture designer, as part of a series of animal sculptures for Fratelli Mannelli.
Highly sought-after, they are not only visually alluring with their minimalist lines, but also wonderfully tactile.
