Original Australian Art Work by Legendary Australian Illustrator Pixie O'Harris | 'Noon at Nowra' | Highly Collectable
This is a rare opportunity to secure an early 1960s Australian art work by Pat (Pixie) O’Harris, the influential Welsh-born Australian children’s author and fantasy illustrator.
Born in 1903, she made her publishing debut in 1923 with her illustrations for Maud Liston’s ‘Cinderella Party’ and from the 1930s was as much a household name as May Gibbs.
This Australian art work is significant not just because it is in oils, but also because it is in complete contrast to her fantasy illustrations, which by the late 1950s were no longer in vogue.
Titled ‘Noon at Nowra’, this is a wonderful work that echoes the vivid colours and rough, abrupt brushstrokes of the fauvist movement.
