Very Rare Mid-Century BUCHAN Stoneware Curved Platter | ,Brittany Pattern, | Made in Scotland | Very Collectible | Great Vintage Condition
This rare, distinctive, curved platter with V-shaped ends is a wonderful example of the mid-century stoneware produced by A. W. Buchan & C0 (1878-1972) in Portobello, Scotland (now a suburb of Edinburgh).
It features the gorgeous 1956 ,Brittany, design of abstract, hand-painted oranges, pears, grapes, figs, and pineapple, and has a French provincial feel to it. However, unlike the pottery commonly produced in the south of France, Buchan potter is fine, high-quality, high-fired stoneware.
This beautiful and cheery piece of vintage stoneware is in excellent vintage condition and will look amazing as a fruit platter on a breakfast table, or add a lovely touch to a luncheon buffet, piled high with antipasti. It stands at about 12.5 cm (~6") high on an 8 cm (~3.2") base.
In recent years, Buchan pottery from the 1950s has become increasingly sought-after by collectors.
