Modern Classic! iittala ,Gaissa, Art Glass Carafe Designed by Legendary Finnish Designer Tapio Wirkkala | 1970s Arctic & Ice-Inspired Range
This eye-catching 1970s iittala decanter was designed by Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) who is considered one of the icons of Finnish design and a symbol of the international success of postwar Finnish design.
It was produced as a part of his ,Gaissa, glassware range, which combines rocky bases and thin walls to reflect the lucid qualities of ice. Wirkkala,s themes are derived from observations of nature, like ice formations and movements of water. The Gaissa range illustrates the powerful force of the arctic climate, which served as his inspiration.
The carafe has a beautifully weighted base, stands 20.2 cm (~7.95") high and measures 11.5 cm (~4.5") across the base, and is in excellent vintage condition.
