Extremely Hard-to-Find! Circa 1876, BELFIELD POTTERY, Scotland, Round Leaf-Shaped Plate with Stunning Majolica Glaze | Exceptional Condition

This is special!

On offer, we have a very hard-to-find majolica plate made by Charles Belfield Pottery, Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland in the late 1870s.

Scottish majolica from this period is not as plentiful as English examples, but the stunning two-sided brown and green glaze of this leaf-shaped dish with a double-loop stalk handle makes it a standout.

Of further interest, this design is one of only five that Belfield & Co registered under the Scottish Design Copyright Act of 1839 (with this one being registered on November 9, 1876, as part of a three-piece dessert service comprising a comport, a round dish, and an oblong dish). Up until Belfield,s ultimate closure in 1939, the pottery only registered another three designs under subsequent extensions of this Act.

Apart from a tiny chip on the base (see image #9), and very minor age-related crazing, this brilliant example of the finest Victorian-era Scottish majolica is in exceptional condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs.

A beautiful addition to your collectibles cabinet or an outstanding display piece.
