BUCHAN Stoneware Mid-Century Salt & Pepper plus Cruets | ,Brittany Pattern, | Made in Scotland | Very Collectible | Excellent Condition

These rustic mid-century Buchan stoneware salt and pepper shakers and cruets were produced by A. W. Buchan & C0 (1878-1972) in Portobello, Scotland (which is now a suburb of Edinburgh).

Designed in 1956, the pattern is known as ,Brittany, and features hand-painted abstract oranges and pears. While visually, they have a French provincial feel to them, unlike the pottery commonly produced in the south of France, Buchan stoneware is fine, high-quality, high-fired stoneware.

Although the cruets are missing their stoppers, and both are marked ,V, for vinegar, the pieces are in otherwise excellent vintage condition. The saltshaker is 8 cm (~3.1") high, while the pepper is 7 cm (~2.75"). The cruets stand at 11.5 cm (~4.5").

There are no chips or cracks, and the colors are vibrant with no crazing to the glaze.

This is a delightful set that will add a farmhouse touch to a lunch or dinner setting. In recent years, Buchan stoneware from the 1950s has become increasingly sought-after by collectors.
