Delightful Set of Two Late 1930s Alfred Meakin Royal Marigold Trios with Creamer and Sugar Bowl | Excellent Vintage Condition
This charming set of two trios (cup, saucer, and side plate), with matching creamer and sugar bowl is from the Alfred Meakin ,Royal Marigold, collection.
Made in Staffordshire England, the combination of their back stamp and the style of patterning indicates they were made between 1937 and 1940.
The cheerful and serene design features a riverside village (possibly Consall Hall Estate and Gardens) together with sprays of yellow, orange, and blue flowers with their leaves, as well as a stand of flowering reeds. The edges of all pieces are slightly scalloped and heavily gilded, which probably accounts for it still being in such great condition.
Each teacup is decorated on the front and back, and includes a spray of flowers on the inside, while the sugar bowl has four scenes on the outside as well as a spray of flowers inside. The sauces are round while the side plates are square with rounded edges. The entire set is in excellent vintage condition, with clean interiors, no chips, cracks, or stains. There is some very light crazing, but far less than you would expect on pottery with such age.
