Exquisite! 1960s SUSIE COOPER ,Talisman, Design Coffee Service | Coffee Pot, 6 Cups & Saucers, Cake Plate, Lidded Sugar Bowl, and Creamer
This very collectible, Susie Cooper coffee set in the Talisman pattern (C1139) was produced between 1961 and 1966. The delicate pattern of pink roses, buds, stems, and leaves on a pale cream background, with a pink rim, demonstrates her attention to detail and her belief that the translucency of china should not be overburdened by the decoration.
It,s extremely hard to find such a complete set — let alone one in such excellent condition after nearly 60 years.
The set comprises:
• 1 x Lidded coffee pot — 17.5 cm (~6.8") high; 21 cm (~8.25") from spout to handle; 11 cm (~4.3") across the base; 0.85 litres (~1.5 pints) capacity
• 6 x Espresso/Can-style coffee cups — 6.5 cm (~2.5") x 6.5 cm (~2.5")
• 6 x Saucers — 14 cm (~5.5") diameter
• 1 x Lidded sugar bowl — 6.5 cm (2.5") high; 8.5 cm (~3.5") wide
• 1 x Creamer — 7.5 cm (3.0") high; 8 cm (~3.2") wide
• 1 x Cake plate — 27 cm (~10.6") long; 17 cm (~6.7") wide
ABOUT SUSIE COOPER Susie Cooper was one of England’s most prolific and successful ceramic designers and her career spanned many years from the 1920s to the 1980s. Susie worked for many other pottery firms over the years and established Susie Cooper China in 1950 when she purchased a china manufacturing business. In 1966, Wedgwood acquired Susie Cooper China Ltd, however, she continued to produce her own designs for them.
She received an OBE in 1979 for her contribution to the arts. Suzie retired at the age of 80 and passed away in 1995 on the Isle of Man.
