Large and Stunning 1950s PATES POTTERY Sydney Floral-Shaped Lustreware Bouquet Vase | Irridescent Black, Pink and Peach Glaze | Exceptional Condition
This large, floral-shaped Pates Pottery mantle vase is an excellent example of Australian post-war decorative pottery. It is a beautiful (and useful) home décor item and a piece of social history.
Made of slip-cast earthenware, the design of this mantel vase centres on a trumpet-shaped flower rising from a large bud-shaped base. The multi-toned iridescent glaze progresses from black to pearlescent pink and peach colors.
The drip glaze is lustrous and, apart from a small chip (shown in image #9), it is in exceptional vintage condition with no other chips, cracks, fleabites, or repairs.
It was made by the now highly collectible Pates Pottery Sydney, which was established by Alfred James Pate in 1946 at Belmore, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. At the peak of their production in the 1950s and 60s, the pottery employed more than 100 people.
