Large and Stunning 1950s PATES POTTERIES Sydney Floral-Shaped Bouquet Vase | Lustrous Maroon and Green Drip Glaze | Exceptional Condition
This large, floral-shaped Pates Pottery vase is an excellent example of Australian post-war decorative pottery. It is not just a beautiful (and useful) home décor item, but also a piece of social history.
Made of slip-cast earthenware, the vase is in the form of a trumpet-shaped flower rising from a large bud-shaped base. The two-toned glaze progresses from claret red to opaline green colors.
The drip glaze is lustrous and apart from some clear, age-related crazing, this vase is in exceptional vintage condition with no chips, cracks, fleabites, or repairs.
It was made by the now highly collectible Pates Pottery Sydney, which was established by Alfred James Pate in 1946 at Belmore, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. At its peak of production in the 1950s and 60s, the pottery employed more than 100 people.
