Rare and Exceptional! 1940s ELGIN AMERICAN Lite-O-Matic ,Magic Action, Gold-Plated Cigarette Case and Lighter | ORIGINAL Boxes and Papers
Made in the late 1940s, this Elgin American ,Magic Action, Lite-O-Matic cigarette case and lighter is a rare and exceptional find.
The matte gold body with its etched scroll design is in fantastic condition, showing no signs of rust or corrosion, no dents or dings, just some very light scuffing to the back (see photo #13). Most significantly for collectors, this offering includes all the original packaging and inclusions — ALL of it in outstanding condition.
In addition to the case and lighter you will receive: • The original cardboard box used by Elgin American for shipping to retailers (two corners are taped) • The original ,EA, logoed light blue-green satin-lined presentation box in as-new condition • A purple carry pouch with gold Elgin American script, which is also in as-new condition • The original three-panel instruction folder — again, unblemished.
HOW THE MAGIC ACTION WORKS When you press a button on the front edge of the case it pops open to reveal an L-shaped bar, which holds your cigarettes. Closing the case automatically lights the lighter. A sliding lock mechanism at the back of the case prevents accidental lighting.
While the main body of the lighter (which is not visible unless being removed for filling) shows some aging, this has no impact on the overall beauty of the piece when it is inserted into its holder.
We have had the lighter examined and are satisfied that it is in perfect working order. However, we would recommend against purchasing this for functional use. This is a perfect item to exhibit and display.
More than 70 years old, this almost pristine Elgin American ,Magic Action, Lite-O-Matic cigarette case and lighter, together with all its original packaging and papers, is truly a remarkable find.
