This 15 cm (~6.0") 1960s/70s 'Ultima Thule' iittala clear glass bowl was designed by Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) who is considered one of the icons of Finnish design and a symbol of the international success of postwar Finnish design.
It rests on three feet and the design is inspired by the effect of melting ice. "Ultima Thule" means the land “beyond known borders”, the far North of Finland, with its harsh cold climate and in the eyes of many an unknown and mythical land.
The bowl stands 10 cm (~4") tall and is 15 cm (~6.0") in diameter and is in excellent vintage condition.
