The B. David jewelry company was a family jewelry shop that opened its doors in 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They produced both gold and silver jewelry, as well as a wide range of costume jewelry.
Their workshop was a full production facility with plating capabilities utilizing both rhodium and gold, and their products were seen as high end – suitable for displaying within a lighted showcase.
From a marketing perspective, one of their most successful lines were the B. David Family Crown Pins', which were offered from the 1960s onwards. Each Family Crown pin was made to order with a sequence of faux gemstones representing the birthstones of children and other family members.
Most of their costume jewelry was made using high-quality Austrian rhinestones with lots of sparkle that resembled real gemstones. Compared to some of the spectacular statement pieces produced by fashion jewelry houses in New York, B. David pieces were often smaller, but featured a full rainbow colour of stones, both attributes exemplified by their Family Crown pins.
The packaging for Family Crown pins included a gift card reading: "The story of Mother's life beautifully told, with each child's simulated birthstone as a jewel in her crown."
The B. David company reportedly produced both fine and costume jewelry until the early 1990s when a third party purchased their manufacturing facility.
We currently have one of their Family Crown pins on offer here.
